Vintage Modernist Swiveling / Pivoting
Chair-side reading lamp
Cedric Hartman for The Afternoon Company
Designed in 1966, USA (Omaha, Nebraska)

Cedric Hartman (Born 1929) is
renowned among the preeminent designers of contemporary lighting and
furnishings. This vintage 1970's floor lamp is a classic example of
his work and is still produced today,
although new editions are currently available to the design trade
only.
This brass floor lamp is ideal for
placing next to a chair or bedside for reading.
The base was designed to be able to slide under a piece of furniture
if needed.
The post features a two piece design that allows the direction of
the head to swivel away from the base for flexibility.
The head of the lamp also pivots to direct light in the direction
you need.
Hartman's custom-made luminaires,
several of which are in the
permanent design collection of MOMA
(the Museum of Modern Art), employ metal components that are
impeccably fabricated by hand.
His design aesthetic extends also to his collection of tables,
upholstered pieces and architectural fittings.
He created several versions of this design, in floor lamps and table
lamps.
The angular design of the lamp head gives the lamp a very classic
modernist feel and
allows the piece to mix easily with other decor styles.
