Very large Pair of African
Kasingele Figures from the Senufo Tribe.
A large horn billed bird
standing on a circular wood base. The birds each have elongated
projecting chests flanked by spread rectangular wings with tribal carvings and
smaller
Senufo (bird) figures perched on each shoulder.
The attenuated neck supports a curved head with a zig zag mane and a long
pointed beak.
Intended to be displayed on
the ground during ceremonies for the Poro Male initiation society.
This is an agricultural region and the close relationship between the people and
their
land is reflected in their ceremonies and in their art. The Senofo Tribe is
known to make elegant
diviner’s figures. Their style of art shows the influence of Voltaic groups such
as
the Dogon and Bamana of Mali.
These Senufo figures are from
a private collection of African Artifacts in Naples, FL.
Dimensions: 71-72” tall, 25”
wide, 23 1/2'-26” deep.
Bases are 12-16” deep and 11”-15 ˝” wide.
Condition: In very good as
found condition, original finish-no clearcoat or wax.
One of the smaller birds was repaired previously (had broken off at the legs)
Import markings still intact, can be removed upon request.
