About Heriz Rugs:
Heriz Rugs are made in the Heriz district of
Iran, about 40 miles west of Tabriz,
in the Northwest corner of Iran. Heriz is
the market center collection point for the region
in Iran in-between Tabriz
and Ardabil. Heriz carpets are tribal hand-woven rugs produced by Azerbaijan
Turkish inhabitants of the reigon.
They are famous among designers because of their
vivid vegetable or soft earth tones that are woven on a geometric pattern. The
dyes offer a soft variation in shading, as with any natural product. While no
two Heriz rugs are identical, they generally tend to have a recognizable
similarity in design and weaving structures. Most have a large central
medallion embedded within a lighter field. Rugs made by Heriz weavers are
highly prized for their marvelous design and sturdiness. Their charm lies
mainly in the balance of the colors.
They are known for creating hard-wearing, durable
high quality wool rugs, touted as one of the toughest of the Persian carpets
available today. Interior designers often request these carpets for their
longevity and colorful patterns, which tend to blend well with a variety of
décor styles and colors.
The intense patterns also tend to hide wear and spots
as time goes on.
