Circa 1640-1660, Germany

A very
fine example of a Large German Baroque Cabinet.
Constructed of Walnut veneers with hand carved details.
Wonderfully detailed top profile.
The 17th
century was the age of the cabinet.
During this design period, the carved buffet that had previously been popular
was replaced by the cabinet as the object of desire in wealthy households.
Formality was the trend and elaborate pieces
were commissioned for the style conscious elite of the period.
Cabinets were used to house the rare and wonderful objects
acquired during this time of passionate collecting.
Dimensions: 48” wide, 24” deep, 93 ½” high.
Upper cabinet has 3 shelves and is 34 ½” off the ground.
In
excellent antique condition,
with recent professional restoration and
expected repairs over the past 3 centuries.
