Macassar Ebony Vitrine, Bar or Bookcase
Signed Figural Bronze Plaque by Sculptor Lucien Gibert
Circa 1930's, France 
Elegant and multi-functional
French Art Deco Cabinet, for use as a Vitrine, Bar Cabinet,
small bookcase or storage cabinet that is easy to place and at
home in any room of the home or office.
Display area at top with by-pass
glass doors. Lower storage cabinet features a Macassar Ebony
cabinet body with a beautiful solid bronze signed figural plaque
that slides to the left to reveal the
secret (key) locking mechanism that locks the lower
cabinet. Signed L. (Lucien) Gibert Figural plaque
depicts a nude woman kneeling with a dove above her shoulder.

Beautifully finished in a high
gloss French Lacquer with black lacquered base with sultry
curved legs
and a 'curled' wood trim piece below the macassar top.
Doors have a raised and notched edge detail at center, to
interlock the doors when closed,
to prevent warping. One wood shelf inside cabinet, more (custom)
shelves can be added if so desired.
Overall Dimensions: 44" Wide (at
base), 54 1/8" High, 15" deep base.
Bronze Plaque: 4 1/8" high, 3 5/8" deep.
Interior dimensions of glass top display area: 11 7/8" deep, 38
5/8" wide, 11 7/8" high.
Main (Macassar) Cabinet Dimensions: 41 1/4" wide,13 3/4" deep.
Interior dimensions: 14 3/8" high, single shelf, 14 7/8" high-11
3/8" deep, 39 1/4" wide.
Condition: In excellent restored
(November 2009) condition, with a high gloss clear French
lacquered
finish over the macassar ebony, and high gloss black lacquer
over the base and trim.
Original Bronze plaque lightly polished with a cloth.

Lucien
Gibert Bio (1904-1988)
Listed artist, Lucien Gibert was a French Sculptor and
medalist. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in
Saint-Etienne then in Paris under Jean Boucher and Jacques
Despiau. He was a professor in Sculpture at École nationale
des Arts Appliqués in Paris and was awarded the Honor medal
at French artists' exhibition. Officer of the Legion of
Honor and Commander of the National Order of Merit. Grand
Prix “Peintres témoins de leur temps”. His works are
exhibited in Museums worldwide. (20 museums throughout
France). Gibert's Algerian Dancer was shown at the Salon des
Artistes Français in 1943, before Gibert's trip to Algeria
and Equatorial Africa in 1948. A similar version is in the
Musée des Années Trente (1930s Museum) in
Boulogne-Billancourt, just outside Paris. Gibert created
many large monuments, bronze statues/sculptures and more
than 200 medals for the Paris Mint.
